Currently my boyfriend has got a job in St.Johns,Mi. Right now we are
from out of state. We are living with relatives. We need to find a place of our
own. So far finding an apartment is impossable in the St. Johns area because we
do have a small dog and most of the places that we had inquired about do not
accept dogs, unfortunatly. If anybody knows of or has a place that we could
rent, 1 bedrooom. I would appreciate if you could e-mail the information on it.
It would be really nice to find a place for ourselves close to his work area.

Hi, I grew up in Saint John New Brunswick. I lived most of my childhood
in Lorneville but always hung out on the lower west side. Actually lived on the
west side and North end as an adult. I live in Winnipeg now but miss Saint John
tremendously , but I have a good job here in Winnipeg,(something that is hard
to come by in Saint John) now that I finally finished College. I would like to
move home again someday though, good job or not.
Anyway if anyone happens

I was a missionary for the Mormon Church (Church of Jesus Christ of

people are extremely friendly and the city was clean and beautiful. My
companions and I had a great time at the toll booth seeing if we could flip
tokens from the passenger's side of the car into the basket. I'd love to get
back to St. John sometime.

Great web site. I enjoyed looking at the wonderful photos. I was born
& raised in Gondola Pt. on the Kennebecasis River. I have been living in
San Antonio, TX since 1999 when I married a native Saint Johner. I'm enjoying
educating Texans here on Canada, many of them didn't know a world existed
outside Texas! I miss home very much & cannot wait to get back there for a
visit. This may sound silly but I really miss ketchup chips & coffee crisp
bars. I have yet to find a more beautiful or freindly place than Saint John!

This is a true story and somewhat embarrassing to tell. I am telling it
for the sole purpose that maybe when you are down and out you may read
this.
The story starts out on a beach in Saint John N.B. where I grew
up, where me and a couple hundred of my closest neighbors are having a few
drinks. Now when I say a few drinks I mean a bunch. You
must remember that the beaches in the Maritimes are not like any beach I have
seen here in Ottawa. They are the kind of beaches where if you happened to pass
out, if you do not get washed out to sea with the tide, the only thing they
would find is half a crab eaten corpse clutching a empty beer bottle. Anyway me
and two other friends, Mark and Ben, finished off are last beers and decided
that it would probably be a good thing to head to the bars. So after capping an
empty beer bottle and throwing it in the fire for a later explosion, we head
uptown.
The only thing that lies between us and the bars is a huge
bridge that stretches over the harbour and, the fact that we are all under age
and have no ID.
Before we sneak over the bridge (because there is no
pedestrian crossing allowed) we decide to stop for a washroom break, because if
you have to go while crossing over the bridge the only place to go
is over the side and that leads to being arrested. We all knew from experience.
But thats another story all together.
Well, we decided to take
the break in a Ready John that was close to the construction site where they
were building a Tim Hortons. I was the last one in. I pulled open the door and
stepped up on a step to relieve myself. A couple seconds into it, the John
started to shake. At this time I was thinking it was a joke and yelled
Stop I am p*&^ing all over myself Well with that and a couple
of laughs from the outside, a longer rocking motion resulted in the whole John
being tipped over and throwing me to the floor, which was now underneath a foot
or so of raw sewage.
Well if this is not bad enough, when I tried to
get out I noticed that the door opened the opposite way, which meant I was
trapped. After a couple seconds of yelling, my friends rolled the
John over and I came out in a wave of dirty water. Well, my first instinct was
to take off all my clothes. Which I did. My second instinct was to pick up a
large stick and chase Mark and Ben around the lot. Which I did. After finally
calming down I decided that it was in my best interest to find a shower. So I
picked up my precious Greatfull Dead hat, my Ozzy Osborne T-shirt and my Chuck
Taylor sneakers with the stick and started up the road. A couple of minutes
later Ben felt sorry for me and offered to give me his boxer shorts to wear. We
quickly changed on the street and I often wonder what would happen if the cops
stopped us at that moment in time. Ben and I naked, with Mark watching and
giggling.
Anyway, we decided to see if there was any beer left at my
buddys T***y the bootlegger. There was.
So there we
were, walking up the street. Me in Bens boxers, Ben going Commando and
Mark still giggling like a schoolgirl. Just then I noticed my newly wed friends
wife looking out the window at us. I yell hello and simply ask if I
can take a shower in her house. She responds by slamming the window. We decided
to make our way to a guys house, that we call Porky Pigs
Palace. He allows me in, but only has a bathtub and not a shower. After
taking a long bath I determine it is not doing the trick and decide to head
back to Bens mothers for the night. I take a shower there and wash my
clothes. Then, instead of doing any more harm to ourselves or the house, we
decide to go to bed. We quickly overcame the obstacle of having only one bed by
reassuring each other that we were not gay, (not that there is anything wrong
with that), but we decide to sleep head to toe anyway.
Now just when
you think that this story cannot get any worse, it does. I awake in the morning
to find myself soaking wet. My first thought is that I have had an
accident, but since I have never done that since I can remember I
talk myself into thinking that it is simply just sweat, (even though it is a
typical Saint John summer day with the high temperature of about eleven degrees
Celsius). Then to my horror I look over at Ben just as he is waking up and see
that he too is soaked from the waist down. Could it be possible to not only
have soiled the bed and myself, but Ben as well? Just then Ben looks and me and
says he is sorry. When I ask him why, he tells me that there was a slow leak in
the waterbed and he thought it was fixed.
Full of relief I check the
clock and it is late afternoon so I take another shower and we head upstairs to
borrow a pack of smokes from his sleeping mother. We load up the
remaining beer in a backpack and step outside. Its another day and the
night before seems far away. We take a breath, light a
smoke
and head to the beach.

Hi Saint John, November.5th, 2002
I was a resident of Saint
John for 17 years out of my 23 years on this earth.
I am now in
downtown Edmonton , sitting a coffee house, enjoying all the fond memories i
have of sj. My mother, Barnhill Memorial School on Manawagonish Road where i
grew up, my first love,Tina, High school, ditching to go to the Mad Hadders,
all the friends i had, and how some of them taught me very important lessons in
life, and, all the girls, oh , the girls.Well,
I got married here in
Edomonton, to a local girl on July 1st, and now were excited to announce that
in April 2003 , were going to have our first child!! My wife is from India, and
she is very beautful, her name is Amee Nanda (Ah-MEE)and now we are starting a
whole new generation of Canadians ,cool, eh.
But one thing i can tell you
about Edmonton, as huge and as exciting as it is here, its a frightning place,
and you have to be careful in every thing you do here, and to think of the
comfort of home, Saint John , makes me smile ear to ear ,cause you never forget
your roots, nomater how far away from home you are.
When i talk to
Albertans and say, i am a Saint Johner, they have nothing but good stuff to say
about the Maritimers out here, so ,keep up the good work, and, in close, if any
one reads this , and you know me, why don't you drop me a line, i would love to
hear from you,
Yours truly,

I was born and raised in Saint John, and have family there. But sence I
left to find work out west...I don't think I would ever go back home to live..I
can't believe the houses in Saint John are so old and unsafe..the last time I
was there most of the houses around my parents have burn down or just falling
apart..St Peters school (Junior High School) where I lived close too is no
longer there...(too old I guess)I never realized how much the City of Saint
John looks so durty. It saddens me that the City is falling apart..theres no

Saint John is both my wife and I's hometown ( I went to St. malachy's 81

I lived in Saint John and then what was a separate City of Lancaster
from 1948 to 1957 with my parents and two brothers. We left while we were still
quite young but I have always remained intrigued by the City and what it meant
to me while I was growing up. Over the years I have been back several times and
have taken my own children to visit where Dad lived, went to school and enjoyed
his childhood. We played in the Martello Tower before it became a tourist site,
went to the old Beaconsfield School and went to the Gaiety theatre on Saturdays
for the movies. Very interesting Webb site.

New to this e-mail thing I thought of when I was a Marine engineer and
used to call at St. John. Out of interest I typed in the name to see many
glowing reports of the fine city. It holds fond memories to me of about 25
years ago when we called and was made most welcome by all that we met. Being a
Scot did not help (fib Fib) as when tjhe scots toungue was heard doors oppened.
I loved the Country and western and still do but sadly we dont have it as you
did then. I met a lovely red head and her family and I thought St John was
nearly called home. I shall be visiting the site to find out more because I
thought it was a wonderfull place with wonderful friendly people just like

AS A FORMER RESIDENT OF THE BEAUTIFUL CITY OF SAINT JOHN, I AM EXTREMELY
PROUD OF THE BEAUTY OF THE CITY AND THE KINDNESS OF THE PEOPLE. THEY SAY THAT
ONTARIO IS THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY, IT IS NOTHING LIKE SAINT JOHN. IT IS ALL
HUSTLE AND BUSTLE, HERE, AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO EVEN KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS.IF I
CAN MAKE ONE SUGGESTION, IT IS THAT THE VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER ON THE WEST

MAKE THIS A REST STOP WITH MAYBE A COFFEE SHOP TO ENTICE THOSE TRAVELLERS WHO
INTENDED TO DRIVE THROUGH THE CITY TO VIEW ALL THAT SAINT JOHN HAS TO OFFER.

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I
work for an advertising agency in London. Our agency represents direct
marketing companies that are involved in the marketing of products as seen on
TV in England. Most of the infomercial products come from the U.S. but then
again we export our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in
the U.S. advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English
people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond
well to sales people who have an English accent!

Hi! I was raised, reared and went to school all my school days in good
old Saint John. My sister Sandra Lee still lives there (actually Loch Lomond).
My first full time job was w/ the City of Saint John Dept of Works and after a
few years at Acadia U. and U.N.B. I worked for Mr. Irving at the "dry dock". I
left Saint John in '66 but returned many times when my folks were alive.
Unfortunately I have not been back since '82 when I was returning from South
Africa, but I am seriously considering retiring there in a couple of years. I
seem to be thinking of Saint John more and more each day. Take it from one who
has been around the globe several times; the grass does not grow much greener
than in Saint John.

Fairly informative site, this, but I'm having a hard time finding
anything with links to musical venues. I'm sure some of the pubs and such
listed may have musical events, but little mention of these events. One would

a place in Canada? Also would like to see some pictures and maps of St. John

I grew up in Saint John. Left in 1964. I lived on Garden Street and
attended both Prince Charles Elementary/Intermediate. I think of my growing up
years in Saint John, and often think of friends that I went to school with.
Some of their names are: DIANE LITTLE, FLORENCE DEARBORN, DONNA KING, ROBERT
LASALLE, WAYNE SAUNDERS, BLAIR WETMORE, WINNIFRED SHEPHERD and too many more to
mention. I can't believe that after almost 40 years later, I can still remember
all there names and I don't even take (GINKO) Oh yes, some of my favorite
teachers: My favorite was MISS LINDA HINES and MR. JULEFF - they were so "cool"
I use to get on MISS WIGGIN'S nerves. I remember the song we made up about her,
it goes like this:
Oh Wiggy's white drawers,
Oh Wiggy's white
drawers,
There's a hole in the middle,
So Wiggy can piddle,
Oh
Wiggy's white drawers. hehehe
Well, that's enough of my talent! If you
think you recognize my name, I'd love to hear from you. All my best,
Diane

I'm looking for information. My father John Hugh McKenna, died at CFB
Fredericton/Gagetown. He was serving with Princess Pat's in Winnipeg, was in
Gagetown for some training. He drowned one month before I was born,July 16,
1957. at least I think that's the correct date. He left behind a wife, and 3
children and one on the way(which was me). My question: Is there anybody
reading this, who was with him in this training mission? I have been given very
little info other than what I am offering here. As a result of that small
amount of information, I am unable to obtain his Death Certificate.
Thank-you.

Greetings from Toronto. I love Saint John. Of course, I'm biased having
been born and raised there. Right now, I'm teaching school in Toronto. I like
Toronto a lot, it's very diverse, but the best thing about it is counting down
the days until I return home to the Greatest Little City in the East! Hope all
is well. Saint John forever. Andrew

Hello to everyone in Saint John,
I first visited Canada in 1973
while in Freeport, Nova Scotia. I heard a diaphone foghorn on the beach and
since have been trying to find people who have recorded the old foghorns on
many Canadian islands and coastal towns. I would like to ask if anyone might
have recorded any sounds from the Saint John foghorn prior to it's deactication
in 1998, please contact me. I am trying to preserve as many horns as I can
find. Thank you for letting me write to you all.

I left Saint John in 1989 and moved to Toronto. Ever heard the
expression "grass always seems greener on the other side". Well this is so
true! The grass was NOT greener of the other side (that being Toronto). There
is no place like New Brunswick or the East Coast! I think what makes it so
special is the hard time the first peoples had when they came to N.B. Saint
John had 2 great fires that destroyed the city, they had a cholera outbreak
that wiped out like 1/4 of the city; they have gone through 2 wars; etc. We
always welcomed newcomers from ANYWHERE in the world and treated them as our
own family (this is rare anywhere else in the WORLD). I think it also has to do
with the big Irish population in Saint John because Irish are always the most
warm and giving people I have ever met in my life. Saint John is also the most
charitable city in Canada even though they are not the richest (Vancouver is
the least charitable and have the MOST money, but no one gives any!) Just some
history of N.B. (and womens rights movement started in New Brunswick and New
York at the SAME TIME. Actually immigrants used to come to SJ to get work back
in the 1870's because no other city would give them a CHANCE (that shows how
progressive we were even THEN!)

i'm writting this comment on behave of my friend! myself and my
bestfriend and another friend went to Saint John on March 3rd for the nite!a
girls nite out i guess you could call it! my bestfriend is in a wheelchair,we
stayed at the lovely Delta ,it was great! we wanted to go to a few bars right
in or around the Delta so she wouldn,t have to go outside, for we have a hard
time getting her in and out of he chair! but to our suprise! most of the places
we went to were not wheelchair assesable! which pretty much ruined our stay! we
couldn't even eat in most of the resturants because the smoking section wasn't
assesable either! we are very disappointed! we spent alot of money on this
lovely hotel and that was where we stayed in the hotel!! what a huge let
down!!
p.s we will never return!!!!!!!
it was a waist of time and
money!!!!!

I had the opportunity to visit St. John on business during the week of
February 5 - 9. Flying in on Sunday the 4th, I could see from the airplane
window that the city and surrounding countryside were quite beautiful. The
people that I conducted business with, as well as the public in general were
hospitable, warm, and friendly. I hope to have the opportunity to return some
