I'm looking for a painting of the Ship the "Agnes" which was built in
New Brunswick in 1839. It was owned by H. Pooley, London. Captain was R.
Davidson in 1842. Brought my relatives out from Liverpool. Any ideas?

I checked out your site in hopes of finding a map of your city, and I
was very disappointed. Like many other cities, the maps on your site are
inadequate for those who are searching. A detailed street map along with a list
of city streets would be helpful to tourists, researches and even locals. It is
important to make sites as user friendly as possible by understanding what your
patrons are looking for. Detailed maps are very important. Otherwise, keep up
the good work.

Great website, there aren't many days that go by that I don't
affectionately remember my 10+ years in Saint John. They seem too far way now.

I came to Ontario when I was 12 (tuned 13 a few
weeks later). I lived in the North End, went to Saint Peters Boys School. I
lived on Rockland Road, Acadia Street, Chapel Street and High Street. I did not
realize that we were poor until we came to Ontario. We were all in the same

I lived in Saint John from 1963 to 1966 when my father was
transferred from Winnipeg, Manitoba, by his company, the Canada Life Assurance
Company. He managed the Mortgage office in Saint John which at that time was
situated on Union Street. I got my first job in Saint John, at the main branch
of the Bank of Nova Scotia which was then located on Prince William Street. It
was one of the best jobs I ever had! When I left Saint John in 1966, I moved
back out west. I have now been living in Toronto since 1968. My husband and I
plus another couple did a camping tour of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island,
and New Brunswick four years ago and we camped our last night in Saint John
before heading back to Toronto. What a big difference in your city in thirty
years! With all the new buildings plus the Harbour Bridge, Sasint John really
looked very different to me. Much more vibrant with a new spirit and excitement
very much in evidence. I still correspond to a friend who lives in your city,
his name is David Lockhart.

Hi, I have been all over the website and one for Nova Scotia and
cannot find the schedules or a site for the ferry to Digby Nova Scotia. If
anyone would email me the departure times or a site to go to or the 1-800
number, I certainly appreciate it. I love St.John's but the relatives are all
in Nova Scotia. My father in law came from New Brunswick. I live in a beautiful
place in the White Mountains and the area around St. Johns is certainly equal

Hello! I have lived in Gardners Creek ,just east of Saint John on
route 825 for 42 years. If any one is coming to visit our city I would strongly
advise them to take the time to drive out along the coast of the beautiful Bay
of Fundy and head towards St. Martins via route 825 .It has some of the most
spectacular scenery that you will see while visiting Saint John. Many of our
own residence do not know about this place, so check it out when you have some
time for a quiet drive through the countryside. email me if you want more

past the airport.

Viewing your fine site makes me proud to have so many Loyalist
ancestors who were part of your history and sleep in the old cemetery and

Alas, Saint John is always just a waypoint on the way to Nova Scotia
for me. However, I have spent some time in the city camping at Rockwood park.
I'm always amazed by it, set up on the hill overlooking the harbor, and mere

Sorry....in all my excitement about my next venture to Saint John in
September I made an error. The ship we are taking from Portland does not go to
Digby but rather to Yarmouth. We will then drive to Digby and take the ferry to
Saint John. Also, forgot to mention our very favorite spot to have breakfast.
It is a little restaurant, called Reggies, located on (I think) Germain St.
(next to the City Market). It has been in business for many, many years and we
feel like natives when we eat there. Great place!!

Hi, great web site. Left Saint John in 1943 for service in the
Merchant Navy, been back a few time since but not in last 17 years. Sure miss
the beautiful St.John river but not the weather there, still get my dulse from

I have been living in Calgary for a little over 2 years and yet as
much as I like Calgary I still have a soft spot for my hometown Saint John.I
miss my wonderful apartment on Germain St. and the firey colors of autumn and
going for walks at any time of the year on New River Beach. I terribly miss

My great great grandparents, John and Agnes LEDINGHAM, emigrated from
Scotland to St John, NB in 1873. One of their sons,my great grandfather, also
John LEDINGHAM, was travelling the Mediterranean as a merchant mariner at the
time. Upon returning home, he found his parents had emigrated. He decided to

I love Saint John. I used to think of it as this scary place when I

I had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful city back in 1985. My
best friend is a life-long resident there and I was staying with her while
there!! The weather wasn't very cooperative (rainy most of the time ... AND
VERY FOGGY!!), but, I still got in quite a bit of sight-seeing!! I was
especially fascinated by the "Reversing Falls Rapids"!! Never seen anything
quite like them before!! Don't know about now, but, when I was there, there was
a paper mill on the river by the Rapids that made the area smell like a metric
ton of CABBAGE was being boiled! AWFUL!! :-) !! I hope to be able to go back to
your city again sometime!! If I'm not mistaken, aren't Boston, MA (USA) and
Saint John "sister cities"?? I live about 8 miles north of Boston... I thought
I read that somewhere!!

There's another 'first' for Saint John, N.B.. In 1923 the first
quadruplets were born in Saint John on Christmas Day. They were the first
quadruplets born in North America and the British Commonwealth, and all
survived. They were delivered at home by one doctor. As news of this miraculous
event spread throughout the world reporters came from New York and other cities
around the globe, all offering the parents money if the quads could travel for
the world to see. Fortunately, the parents who were not rich, declined all
offers, wanting the children to have a normal life. All 4 children lived a
fairly long life and one still lives.

What a lot of memories!?!?! I grew up in Rothesay/St John and lived
there until the age of 11. I then moved to England in 1991. My memories of
Mispec, Rockwood Park, King's Square and most importantly the City Market (my
father, Pete Luckett had a stall) all remain vivid and highly important to me.
I still to this day, miss everyone and everything about St John - it's
fantastic!! I returned for a visit in 1997 and will try again in the summer

I just got back from traveling in New Brunswick & "lucked" into
the newly established scenic drive that will eventually link up with the Bay of
Fundy drive. You need to establish a link with the Bay of Fundy site, for it is
much more well known than your area. St. Johns is a beautiful area & the

Hi, It's me again. Since I wrote the last time, I have had the
opportunity to visit your beautiful city twice, once in December and the other
the first of March. I found it to be as beautiful and friendly as Steven had
said it would be. My children and I will be relocating to Saint John the end of
May'99. Steven and I will be marrying in September. I can hardly wait to become
a citizen of this fantastic city! We loved all the snow, especailly since we do

Great city to work for....34 year old H.E.O. 10 year veteran I love
Elsie & I love Shirley. One thing comes to mind is "We should not/can not
let the Lily Lake Pavillion be shut down or destroyed. There's too much History
to let it go. Many memories of skating, the canteens, the paddle boats, the row
boats, the lifeguards, the happy children, the raft, the cleanliness of the
facilities...the dances. The pictures, the tourists. Flooding the lake for a
skating surface...too many memories to list. SAVE THE PAVILLION - It's a good
building & atmosphere. I've worked there for Mr. Bill Ross - a true
gentleman. The Saint John Horticultural Association did the best job ever
keeping things running smoothly.I know they had grants and all ,but they made
out O K Save the PAVILLION

I really enjoyed looking at this web site even though it made me
homesick. Like many other Saint Johners, I moved out west to find work. I have
been out here for 9 months now, and I still really miss home, the people just
aren't as friendly, and they don't know how to party like the maritimers! I
think it's sad that so many people have had to move out west to find work, but
hopefuly the economy will get better back there and we can all move back! If

We have never been to the Maritimes, sad to say. Only because the
west coast is so much closer so we go there to try to satisfy our love of the
sea. We plan on visiting your area but it will be a while unfortunately. This

1993. My father lives on Manawagonish Road so if I ever get a chance to visit,

My second visit to this wonderful site. Reading all these messages
makes me so homesick! I made my First Communion at the Cathedral. I lost my
appendix in the General Hospital. My heart just about broke when I saw on TV,
the hospital being demolished. I have many good memories of Saint John. I've

Born 1947 at recently demolished St John General Hospital. Started my
life on Douglas Avenue and moved from Lancaster to Winnipeg in 1957. It was

There's so much on this site that I'd need two lifetimes to read it

I'd like to see is a link to the state tourist agency so I could get some

My wife and I visited Saint John in 92. We have lots of relatives
living there. My father was born there in 1896. his father's name was Matthew
Garey. I am trying to get information on the history of Partridge Island and
the names of immigrants that landed there in 1840's Like my father I think
Saint John is the best city in Canada

Interesting site... Somewhere in St. John I have some distant
relatives and have often wondered what it was like. My mothers uncle emigrated
at the start of the century and she often talks about his letters (she is now
90 years of age and remembers a great deal about his letters home) In
particular a letter he had to finish writing because the ink had started to
freeze. Another relation I believe his name was Charles Lacy Jones was killed
in the first world war and my mother has passed a regimental Medal to me. So if
there are any Jones's still out there we would still love to hear from you..
The Jones family came from Poplar in the E. End of London and were a family of
seafarerers
