Border Crossing
- U.S. residents require only proof of
citizenship;
- Citizens of other countries require valid
passports.
Boats
- U.S. pleasure craft operators must immediately
register with Canada customs upon entry, call (506)466-2363.
Baggage/Goods
- Personal baggage is not subject to
restrictions.
- Alcoholic beverages may be imported by persons
aged 19 years or older and are exempted up to the following amounts; 1.1 litre
( 40 oz ) spirits or wine; or 8.3 ( 288 oz ) beer or ale.
- Tobacco may only be imported by persons aged 16
years or older and is exempt up to the following amounts; 200 cigarettes; or
0.9 kg ( 2 lbs ) loose tobacco.
Firearms
- Revolvers, pistols, full automatic weapons or
and firearm with an overall length of 66 cm ( 26 in ) or less are prohibited
from entry.
- Other arms may be permitted only by special
permit.
Recreation Equipment
- All equipment is allowed and must be declared
upon entry.
Plants
- Plants and plant materials are prohibited
unless imported by authority under the Plant Quarantine Act.
Food and Food Stuffs
- This is permitted providing the quantity
imported is consistent with the duration and nature of the visitors stay.
Pets
- Dogs and cats require certificates by a
licensed veterinary which states that the animal therein has been vaccinated
against rabies within the last three years.
Highway
Regulations
- Seat belt use is mandatory for drivers and
passengers in the province of New Brunswick.
Insurance
- U.S. Motorist require proof of
insurance.
- Public Liability
- A Non-resident inter-provincial Motor Vehicle
Liability Insurance Card is available through respective insurance
companies.
License/Registration
- Drivers must have a valid drivers license and
proof of vehicle registration.
Speed Limits
- Zones are posted in kilometers per hour.

Travel Trailers
- These are welcome without an entry
permit.
- Limitations as follows; Max. length ( 48 ft.
10 in ) - Trailer plus tow vehicle.
Alcoholic Beverages
- The legal age for consumption of alcohol in New
Brunswick is 19 years.
N.B. Liquor
Store
- Usual hours are Monday to Thursday 10 am- 6
pm; Friday and Saturday 10am- 10pm. ( Not all stores remain open past 6 pm. )
- Stores observe all public holidays.
Drinking Establishments
- Any licensed establishment, May open between
the hours of
9 am - 2 pm. 7 days a week or if food is served from 6 am
- 2 am
Metric System
- All provinces in Canada use the metric system.
Currency Exchange
- If visiting from outside Canada your currency
may be exchanged at any bank in N.B., at the prevailing rate.
- Usual banking hours are from 10 am - 3 pm,
Monday to Friday.

Harmonized Sales Tax ( HST )
- A 14% tax on most goods and services sold in
New Brunswick. This new blended tax replaces the old provincial sales tax of 11
% and the old GST of 7 %
- Non-residents of Canada may pick up rebate
forms at tourist information centres or from Customs & Excise.

- Canadian hospital and medical services are
excellent.
