History of Dalhousie, New Brunswick
Dalhousie, the shire town of Restigouche County since 1837, is situated on the Bay of Chaleur, right at the mouth of the Restigouche River. The Bay of warmth is the name given to our Bay by Jacques Cartier in 1534. By early 1800 a sizable settlement had taken firm root at the mouth of the Restigouche. In 1826 the Village was named Dalhousie after the ninth Earl of Dalhousie, then governor of Upper and Lower Canada. In recent years Dalhousie has become known for its exports of newsprint and minerals.
