Deer Island, New Brunswick


   Deer Island is the smallest of the Fundy Isles. It lies in Passamaquoddy Bay between the province of New Brunswick and the state of Maine.
   Toll ferries operate all day in the summer months between the Deer Island Point Campground and Eastport, Maine and Campobello, New Brunswick.
   Free ferries run on the half-hour from Butler's Point, Deer Island to L'Etete on the New Brunswick mainland.
   Numerous fishing villages dot the Deer Island coast - home to the herring, lobster and salmon fishery that are the mainstays of the island economy.
   Deer Island is a naturalist's paradise, bountiful with coastal vistas, woodland and beach walks, and marine and bird life.

BEACHES
Red Beach, Cummings Cove Beach, Deer Island Point Park
Red Beach overlooks the inner bay and Maine shore, and from Deer Island Point Park you can observe the famous Old Sow Whirlpool.
FERRIES
Deer Island - Letete Ferry
Toll-Free. Operates year round between Letete (off Route 1 at St. George, take Route 722) and Lambert's Cove, Deer Island.
NATURAL
Old Sow Whirlpool
The largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere. Can be seen three hours prior to high tide from Deer Island Point Park.

   Deer Island Point Campground lies on the southwestern end of Deer Island, New Brunswick. It is surrounded on three sides by the swirling tides of Fundy.
   The newly-renovated campground is ready to enhance your New Brunswick holiday whether you arrive driving a motorhome, towing a camper or carrying your tent on your back.
   Throughout the 40-acre campsite you will find all the amenities you require for a comfortable stay.
