MOLASSES DATE BARS

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Fancy Molasses
  • 1/4 Cup Shortening, melted
  • 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 Cup sifted enriched flour
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2/3 Cup Chopped Nuts
  • 1 7oz. pkg. Pitted Dates, chopped fine

Beat egg, add sugar, fancy molasses, shortening and vanilla. Stir in sifted dry ingredients, nuts and dates. Pour into a 9" sq. pan lined with wax paper, greased and lightly floured. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes. Cut into 32 bars when cool, then roll in confectioners' sugar.
